Hurricane Ike - Updated

I'm having difficulty writing a post right now as I have some personal issues that I'm not ready to share. I will, but right now is just not all that funny and I'm just not up to blogging.

One thing though, is that I cannot get in touch with my father or sister, who both live in Houston and were affected by Hurricane Ike. I'm sure that their phones are out, I know that 99% of the metro Houston area is without power and most people have no water.

Some of you are Pikirls who know my dad and sister. If you see them or hear from them and you have some way to get in touch with me, please let me know what their status is.

Thanks. I'll be back to normal in a few days.

Updated: Finally heard from BIL (sister's husband). They have no phones, no internet (how do they live???), but they have power, water and gas. They've had minor damage to both my dad's house and my sister's house, but everyone is okay! Thanks so much to all of you for your nice comments and thoughts!

  2. My SIL has a friend is Katy. She said phones and power are out, cell reception is spotty at best. I hope your family finds a way to reassure you.

  3. Marinka - Thanks. I'm not that worried, I know they're all holed up together somewhere. It's just I want to get the word out that I'm thinking about them.

Insta-mom - Thanks for the information. SIL, MIL and FIL all live in Houston too and we've heard from all of them. I'll just keep trying to call:).

  4. I hope your family is ok. I heard that they didn't evacuate Houston because it was more dangerous to do that than to have people shelter in place. Also, I found this website http://www.chron.com/ where they have information about Houston including some people posting that power has been restored in some areas of Houston. I think that Galveston took the worst hit. Can you text your family? I've done that in the past from here using my Polish cell phone and they can get the message on their cells. If anyone in your family can text they may be able to get a message back to you. Let us know when you hear from them.

just stay away from the cantaloupe. i wish you lived closer. as in, closer to me. how selfish is that? =)

I hope YOU are alright too. I'd send you another package but it would only arrive in time to remind you of whatever is now going on. I've never met you my dear but you know I love ya to bits and hope you are ok*!*

  9. Kylie--I am glad to hear they are okay. I have an uncle and a couple of cousins that live in Houston. We know the cousins are okay and have some water damage but we have not heard from my great uncle yet. But I don't know if is not returning phone calls on purpose to my gramma or what. He didn't come for his brother's funeral last week so it may be on purpose..but we have tried to contact him.
